Introduction

While not as numerous as some of the commonly encountered local birds, House Wrens have been on my list every year I've been birding, with sightings that stick in my mind at Joe Palaia Park and on North Wanamassa Drive, not to mention those that nest in our back yard. They're also likely to be seen nesting in Weltz Park during the spring. They are migratory so we only see them during the warmer months.

First Encounter

My first encounter with a House Wren is lost in antiquity. I do recall one in a particular tree on the south side of Joe Palaia Park, and the one that posed for me on a particular branch on North Wanamassa Drive and who was still there when I came back along the road an hour later.

Subsequent Sightings
