I first encountered Killdeers at Oceanport then Black-bellied Plovers at Shark River Hills. My first Semipalmated Plovers were on the retaining wall at the south-east end of Sylvan Lake. Piping Plovers were harder to find until I started walking the beaches at Sandy Hook, although I've also seen one at Barnegat Lighthouse. My encounter with the American Golden-Plover at Sandy Hook went unnoticed for over three years because I misidentified it back in 2013.
