Saturday, September 28: I'd gone out in the hope of getting a better picture of the kingfisher. I even spent about twenty minutes hanging out in what I thought was a likely spot, but I grew bored and decided to stroll home "the long way."

There's a stream that passes under Wickapecko Ave. from the unnamed pond that interrupts Raymere Ave. to an arm of Deal Lake, the arm that passes along the north side of Deal Point. This stream passes through a wooded area that continually surprises me for the lack of wildlife.

But today was different. I heard this bird before I saw it. And, it actually flew to this tree from one that was closer. Still, I think this is the best picture I've yet taken of a red-bellied woodpecker.
