Friday afternoon, September 20; The green heron was at the pond again. For 20 minutes or more, it was perched on the branches on the island where I've often taken its picture. But it suddenly flew a short distance up stream. I followed and saw that it was running up the far bank, apparently chasing something (perhaps in the water). I took this shot through the bushes on my side of the stream, so it is a miracle that the camera focused on the bird, and, of course, there's a fair amount of motion blur.
But just look at those head feathers. This picture brings to mind boxing promoter Don King. I expect that it extends its feathers like this in order to look more fearsome to its pending prey.
