Introduction There are Northern Gannets aplenty out over the ocean. I had resigned myself to the thought that I was unlikely to ever photograph one, but in late November 2014, on two consecutive days at the beach at Allenhurst, I captured first an adult and then a juvenile. First Encounter One of my mottoes about birding is, "Don't forget to look up!" Fortunately, I did so on November 29, 2014 as I was preparing to leave the Allenhurst beach. Most-Recent Encounter The very next day under almost identical circumstances and at almost the same place, I again looked up and saw what I thought might be a duck flying over, but it turned out to be a juvenile Northern Gannet. Other Sightings I have not seen another Northern Gannet since, let alone photograph one. |
