Half as large again as its American cousin, this bird is known simply as a Kestrel in England where I photographed this male first as it hovered overhead and then on this cable at Broughton on the outskirts of Aylesbury, near the Grand Union Canal. I captured this image during a visit to my brother-in-law while I was in England on my last business trip in March of 2014, actually three months after I’d retired.
To the best of my recollection, this was my one and only sighting of a Kestrel in England. Certainly, it was the only time I ever photographed one.
